Romanian Academy – Iasi Branch                 Institute of Archaeology from Iasi

Dear Colleagues,

Within the framework of the research projects External Relations of the Pontic Greek Cities during the Hellenistic and Roman Periods (http://www.ponticgreekcities.ro) and The „Other” in Action. The Barbarization of Rome and the Romanization of the World (http://arheo.ro/romanization) respectively, as well as in collaboration with the Iaşi Branch of the Romanian Academy and the German Cultural Center Iaşi, we intend to organize an international symposium entitled:

“Mobility in Research on the Black Sea Region

(PN-II-ID-PCE-2011-3-0054 and PN-II-ID-PCE-2012-4-0490 to H2020)”

The event will take place from 6 to 12 July 2015, mainly at the Iaşi Branch of the Romanian Academy, three days being reserved for the symposium proper and two or three days for visits to historical monuments in Bucovina (the latter trip is optional). Presentations will be in English, German or French. The organizers envisage the publication of the proceedings.

Expenses for lodging, common meals, trips to monuments in Bucovina will be taken over by the host institutions. In case you have no possibility of having your travel expenses covered by your home institution or through a research grant, please get in touch with us ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ; This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ), so that we may look for a solution. However, we cannot make any binding promise in this respect.

Those colleagues who are included in the preliminary program (as attached) have already expressed their intention to participate.

Moreover, we have invited the following colleagues to chair workshop panels (confirmations are yet pending):

Prof. Dr. Alexandru Avram (Le Mans)

Prof. Dr. David Braund (Exeter)

Prof. Dr. Kostas Buraselis (Athens)

Dr. Anna Heller (Paris / Tours)

Dr. Adrian Robu (Paris)

Prof. Dr. Christof Schuler (Munich)

Prof. Dr. Michael Speidel (Berne)

Prof. Dr. Onno van Nijf (Groningen)

We would appreciate, if you could let us know by December 30 whether you intend to contribute a presentation (if yes, we need a preliminary title of your paper). Further information will be sent to you in due time.

Many thanks for your interest, and all best wishes from
