                                               Curriculum vitae Victor Cojocaru

a) Education, degrees and diplomas

►1986, graduate of the secondary school in Zăicani (Republic of Moldova).

►1986-1997, undergraduate study of ancient history, classical archaeology and classical languages at the State University Chişinău (Republic of Moldova) and “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University Iaşi (Romania).

►1993, degree (Bachelor) in history (ancient history and epigraphy), with the dissertation Investigation of the Person Names from the Greek Cities of the Western Black Sea Coast in the Period of the Principality. Supervisor: Professor Octavian Bounegru.

►1997, degree (Bachelor) in philology (Greek and Latin languages), with the dissertation The Ancient Literary and Epigraphic Evidence of the Northern Black Sea Area. An Ethnogeographic Investigation. Supervisor: Professor Mihaela Paraschiv.

►2001, PhD in history at the “Al. I. Cuza” University Iaşi, with the thesis The Population of the North and Northwest Pontic Area during the 6th -1st Centuries BC on the Basis of Epigraphic Evidence. Supervisor: Professor Silviu Sanie.

►2011, PhD in philology at the “Al. I. Cuza” University Iaşi, with the thesis The Language of the Greek Inscriptions from the Cities of the Northern Black Sea Coast of the 6th Century BC to the 3rd Century AD. Supervisor: Professor Traian Diaconescu.

 

b) Professional experience, former employers

→ 1993, researcher at the Institute of Archaeology Iaşi of the Romanian Academy (actually Research Scientist II).

→ 1996-2002, researcher (half-post) at the Romanian Institute of Thracian Studies of the Ministry of Education and Research.

→ 2002-2004, researcher (half-post) at the “Vasile Pârvan” Institute of Archaeology (Bucharest) of the Romanian Academy.

My research interests include: Greek History, Epigraphy, and Archaeology (ancient cities – Tyras and Olbia, onomastics, the language of the Greek inscriptions, proxenia, the external relations of the Greek cities, relations between Greeks and Barbarians, acculturation).

Mother tongue Romanian; fluent German, and Russian; high level English, French; reading level Ancient Greek, Bulgarian, Italian, Latin, Polish, Spanish, and Ukrainian.
